PKP First vs Second Class: Choosing Your Train Seat
When comparing first and second class on Polish trains, start with the accommodation offered on your actual departure. Class is one part of the booking. It does not by itself establish the seat layout, available facilities, meal service or refund conditions.
Class and train category are different choices
The labels EIP, EIC, IC and TLK identify train categories; first and second class identify accommodation. A search for Pendolino first class therefore combines a train type with a class choice. Check that both match the offer you select and the ticket you receive.

What should I compare before paying more?

A layout or photograph from another departure may not describe your carriage. If a particular feature matters to your journey, confirm it in the service information or with the seller. Do not infer Wi-Fi, catering or a particular seating arrangement solely from the words first class.
Is first class worth it?
Decide using the actual price difference and what the offered accommodation adds to your trip. For a longer journey, a confirmed seating preference may matter more than it does on a short trip. For a family or group, confirmed adjacent seats may matter more than the class label.
Compare the full party price for the same departure and passenger mix. Check the displayed currency and whether a price is per person or for the whole booking. A lower headline price for a different departure is not a direct class comparison.
Booking a class does not confirm every seat preference
Check whether window, aisle, table or group seating is a request or a confirmed allocation. After booking, inspect the carriage and seat information on the issued ticket. Use our PKP seat reservation guide for the distinction between a preference and an assigned seat.
If you cannot see the requested accommodation in the confirmation, contact the seller before assuming it has been supplied. Keep the original order reference and avoid buying a second ticket simply to try for a different seat.
Changing class or using a different carriage
Do not take an empty first-class seat on the assumption that a second-class ticket allows it. Ask the operator or seller about the permitted change and any additional payment. A change of class, a change of departure and a refund can be different requests with different conditions.
