PKP Train Types: EIP Pendolino, EIC, IC and TLK
EIP, EIC, IC and TLK identify categories of PKP Intercity trains. They help describe the service you are comparing, but they are not seat classes or refund policies. Read the category together with the departure time, station stops, available class and conditions for your selected ticket.
What do the train categories mean?

These categories cover long-distance services. A Polish railway journey can also involve regional or local operators with different train labels and tickets. For a connection, check each leg separately instead of applying the conditions of the first train to the whole trip.
Is Pendolino the same as first class?
No. Pendolino describes the train associated with EIP services; first and second class describe the booked accommodation. Check both fields. A ticket for a particular category does not let you choose any carriage or upgrade yourself by taking an empty seat.

How to compare EIP, EIC, IC and TLK
- Search the route and date using the exact stations you intend to use.
- Compare arrival time and total travel time, including any connection.
- Check whether the train uses the most convenient station for your plans.
- Review the class, seat information and facilities stated for the departure.
- Read the full price and the fare conditions before choosing a ticket.
Do not assume one category is always the cheapest or fastest for your entire journey. A convenient departure or direct connection may matter more than the category label. Compare the alternatives actually offered on your date, including the time needed to reach the station.
Train type does not establish ticket flexibility
A service label such as IC or EIP does not, on its own, explain whether your ticket can be exchanged or refunded. Check the named fare and its conditions. First class is also not a promise of flexible travel. If a condition is unclear, ask the seller before paying.
Similarly, a search result is not an issued ticket. Keep the booking confirmation and check the actual travel document for the train number, date, stations and assigned accommodation before travelling.
