Luggage on Polish Trains: Suitcases, Bikes and Pets

Check luggage rules for the operator and train on each leg of your Poland journey. A suitcase, a bicycle and an animal can be treated differently. A general railway guide cannot confirm a universal allowance, a space reservation or acceptance of a special item.

Planning a journey with suitcases

Choose bags you can move through the station and board with safely. Check the carriage information available for your departure, and avoid assuming there will be an empty rack next to your seat. Keep your ticket, identification, medication and valuables accessible rather than buried in a large bag.

Use the storage areas provided and follow onboard instructions. Keep aisles, doors and accessible spaces clear. An unused passenger seat should not be treated as a luggage reservation. If you need help identifying a suitable storage place, ask the crew.

Is luggage free on trains in Poland?

Check the current operator conditions for the item you plan to bring. Do not transfer one operator's policy to another train. For example, Krakow Airport's official rail information lists luggage carriage as free on its airport service; that statement does not establish the allowance or special-item charges on an onward long-distance train.

Use the Krakow Airport train guide for that connection. For other services, review the information attached to the selected departure and contact the operator or seller if the policy is unclear.

Taking a bicycle

Check whether the exact train accepts your bicycle and whether a separate ticket, place reservation or packaging requirement applies. A passenger seat reservation is not a bicycle-space reservation. If the booking channel does not show a bicycle option, do not assume it is included in the passenger fare.

Confirm the rules for the type of bicycle you have, including whether it is folded or boxed. Review each leg of a connecting journey. One train accepting a bicycle does not confirm acceptance on the next train or on replacement transport.

Travelling with a dog or another pet

Before purchasing a passenger ticket, check the operator's current rules for your animal. Confirm whether a separate ticket, carrier or other conditions apply. Assistance-animal arrangements should be checked under the relevant operator guidance rather than inferred from general pet information.

Tell the seller what you need before booking if the available form has no suitable option. The absence of a pet field is not confirmation that the animal can travel without further arrangements. Keep any required documents accessible during the journey.

Transfers, airport arrivals and accessibility

Allow time to move bags between platforms and, when necessary, between stations. In Warsaw, confirm whether the journey changes at Centralna, Śródmieście, Zachodnia or Wschodnia. Similar city names on a journey planner do not mean that every change happens on the same platform.

A useful check before booking

Write down the operators, trains and any special items for the full journey. Confirm acceptance, space and any additional ticket separately from the passenger fare.
